In 2001, the first Queer Tango Festival took place in Hamburg, marking the beginning of a movement that spread around the world. Twenty-five years later, we're celebrating—and bringing back our Queer Tango Milonga, this time at Tangoloft.

We've invited two queer dancers who were part of the scene in its early years: Astrid Weiske and Timm Christensen. They'll share some of their memories and experiences from the beginnings of Queer Tango.
🎥"Disitango - un abrazo feminista" is a documentary by Valerie Loewensberg (2025), shot mostly in Argentina. Tango has long been associated with machismo. Yet in recent years, feminism and the LGBTQIA+ movement have been reshaping tango, opening it up to new forms of expression and inclusion. The solemn charm of traditional tango now intertwines with androgynous bodies, and a new freedom emerges—creative, technical, but above all emotional, embracing the diversity and plurality of gender identities.
